ERTC: Ask the Experts FAQs

What is the rough format of the event – is it like a normal conference?

No!  ERTC: Ask the Experts will be a much more informal interactive two days where Experts, Process and Maintenance Engineers and suppliers can network and openly discuss solutions on how to improve margins, eradicate challenges and discover new methods of working through the latest technology. View our agenda for more information.

Where do the questions come from?

Questions come from the Process and Maintenance Engineers themselves. Please see here for how we have sourced our questions

Is it too late to submit a question?

No! It’s never too late! You can submit a question to Kay (Kay.Mitchell@clarionevents.me) at any time or just put your hand up on the day!

You are calling for experts – experts on what exactly?

There are a variety of Experts we are searching for. We are looking for experts who can answer  the questions submitted by process and maintenance engineer’s under the 5 key themes:

  1. FCC
  2. Hydroprocessing
  3. Gasoline processes
  4. Crude / vacuum distillation and coking
  5. Troubleshooting and maintenance

What if we can’t submit our answers on time?

The deadline to submit your answer is the 27th February. If you are unable to meet that deadline there are still loads of ways to get involved. Email Kay.Mitchell@clarionevents.me for more info.

How are answers reviewed to select experts?

After the deadline, we will review all answers, together with our panel of Industry Experts.

  • If your answer(s) is accepted you will hear from us to confirm your place and help you purchase your Expert ticket
  • If your answer has not been accepted due to the volume of responses we receive, we may not be able to respond to you. However if you would still like to discuss other ways of getting involved, then please do get in contact.

Best in class answers will be given “Expert status” and all answers will be included in our “Answer Book” which will be distributed to all engineers following the event.

On the panel, how many questions does an expert answer? What do they do at ATE?

As many as they can! If you take part on our Expert Panel you will be provided with all the questions in that theme in advance of the event. We will arrange a call for you to meet the moderator and the other panelists to discuss the questions that most suit your expertise and the areas you would be comfortable answering in prior to the event.

Do I have to answer questions from my competitor?

No – we will ensure you do not have to answer questions from a competitor. We will always have a moderator present to ensure this is adhered to.

Will I be asked questions that aren’t on the current list?

Yes – we will open questions to the audience – particularly during our Expert Panel and Ask the Expert Fishbowl format – please see information here regarding our formats. We actively encourage audience participation throughout ERTC: Ask the Experts and we will also be using Slido

What is Slido?

Slido is an audience interaction platform, which allows you to submit your questions as well as ‘like’ the questions of other participants.  Questions with the highest number of votes will stand a better chance of being answered by our Experts. Throughout the event, we will also be running live polls which you will be able to vote in. Please see here for FAQs for Slido.

What is a Fishbowl Panel?!

  • 4 chairs are filled with Experts
  • 1 chair is left empty for you, the audience
  • A topic is introduced and the panellists start discussing the topic
  • Any member of the audience can, at any time, occupy the empty chair and join the fishbowl panel
  • When this happens, an existing member of the fishbowl must leave the fishbowl and free a chair.
  • The discussion continues and the audience listens with participants frequently entering and leaving the fishbowl panel

Does everyone’s answer get published in the answer book?

Best in class answers will be given “Expert status” and all answers will be included in our “Answer Book” which will be distributed to all Process Engineers following the event.

Who gets the answer book?

We will distribute the answer book to all Process and Maintenance engineers that have attended ERTC: Ask the Experts.

Who will be in the audience?

Process and Maintenance Engineers from Europe’s refineries will make up the audience at ERTC: Ask the Experts.

What are the key takeaways?

  • Practical advice that can be shared within the refinery after the event
  • All the answers will be gathered and given to the attendees in our Answer Booklet
  • Professional development through our onsite business development
  • A fresh new way of looking at problems and how to solved them
  • An enhanced young refiner network of peers
